NWH Best Practice Award from NYONELJune 26, 2014
Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) has received the Best Practice Award from the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders (NYONEL) for the Northern Metropolitan Region for the initiative: Implementing a Single Plan of Care, Teamwork & Communication.
Northern Westchester Hospital received the award at the NYONEL annual meeting, where Anne Winkler, MA, RN, CCRN, Staff Educator presented the winning project. In addition to the recognition, NWH was awarded $1000 which is earmarked for the NWH Professional Endowment Fund.
The New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders conducts an annual initiative featuring statewide best practices that have resulted in changes aimed at improving patient care, and/or advancing the profession of nursing. Submissions are judged by a committee representing every region in the state. Projects were required to align with the topic of the annual meeting – "Transitions in Healthcare: Nursing at the Crossroads," highlighting the importance of nursing in affecting the direction of healthcare changes.
“As a Magnet hospital and healthcare leader, we have the responsibility to continuously enhance processes in order to improve patient care,” shared Lauraine Szekely, Chief Nursing Officer, Northern Westchester Hospital. “Our nurses continually make contributions to improving healthcare delivery, and we are pleased to have received this award recognizing those efforts.”
Northern Westchester Hospital is the only hospital in the nation that is a Designated Planetree Hospital with Distinction which has also achieved Magnet Recognition. Magnet Recognition signifies that an organization provides high-quality patient care, promotes nursing excellence and is one of the country’s finest healthcare organizations.
