In 1997, I had gone for a routine examination, and it was discovered I had A-fib. I was asked, had anyone ever shared this with me. I responded "no". I was told to see my heart doctor; however, I hadn't, as I felt no pain, nor flutter of any kind. The fact was, I was not consistently in A-fib. In any case, I received a call from Dr. Foeppel, and he said to get to NWH as soon as I could that he would meet me there. Of course, the panic set in. My husband and I arrived within 45 minutes at the hospital, I was met by a team of doctor's as well as Dr. Foeppel, Cardiologist, and Dr. Simonetti, Internist. My platelets dropped and for 48 hours, they did not know whether they could bring me back, but through their collaborative and consistent efforts, and through the communication efforts of Dr. Simonetti and Dr. Foeppel who immediately called upon the diligent and respected expertise of Dr. Gino Bottino, my life was saved! The relief seen on the faces of these three special physicians are an indelible mark in my mind and emphasize how crucial communication is among physicians in saving lives!
I am especially and heartfully grateful!!!
