I am writing to praise you and your staff at the hospital for my treatment and care during my stay on January 4th to the 6th.
So let me begin with Donna and I walking into the front entrance. We were greeted by a professional, possibly a doctor who made himself, in not only directing us to where we were going but also walking us to the elevator we needed to take to the second floor. This is of course after two calls from the hospital staff before my operation date, that completed some medical information surveys and both of whom instructed me where to go once I entered your facility. Once on the floor early for my admission process, we were not told to wait but were immediately attended to by the admission clerk. After some minor paper work, I was asked to sit in the waiting room and someone would come to escort Donna and I to the staging room for my operation; the wait time was less than 5 minutes!
In the staging room, I was greeted by my surgeon, Dr. Peris and the anesthetist, (I believe he said, you can call me, Mike) and others including a visit from you just before surgery. Other members of the team were in as well but I was anxious and do not remember all those who attend me, I do remember that all our questions were answered and I was out of my room. My next memory was waking up in the recovery room with members of my family and some friends there to greet me as well as your staff to let me know that everything went extremely well. Christopher, my son told me later that I was pretty out of it when I first woke up.
I was brought to my private room #433 and after just a few hours, recognized that I was being treated very well both professionally and with care and kindness. Your own concern and time to stop by before going home that evening to make sure I was doing okay was greatly appreciated. I began writing down names of those who were taking care of me to include them in this thank you, however I know I missed many including Nurse Jim, Nurse Ashleigh, Nurse Merin, Nurse Jen, Nurse Sharmila, and Tech Andrew. This team was attentive, and caring and personable. I learned two of the nurses were new to the field under your new nursing training program working under more seasoned nursing supervision; they were both friendly and did their jobs very well. Techs Eva and Andrew were available and attentive and respectful of my personal privacy. I was able to eat and unrestricted diet once I felt hungry and that was not long after the recovery room, as you know I love to eat. The food was served hot or cold as it would be in a good restaurant. The choices of food, drink, and desert were many and well made. I remember my first menu to make my own choices for the next meal and having to go back and scratch off my first choices because more appealing choices followed. One of the things that most impressed me was your housekeeping staff. The clean or gather the trash; but more impressive was that each and every one of them asked if they could do anything else for me before leaving my room.
My surgery went very well; Dr. Peris visited me to check in on my progress and pain. I was happy to report to him that I was doing very well and my chronic leg pain seems to be nearly gone, with the exception of a little numbness in my toes on my right foot. Of course the surgery and spinal pain I was experiencing was new and expected but still much more tolerable than the preexisting leg pain. i was doing so well that I was able to leave the hospital a day earlier that first planned. i continue to do well three weeks from surgery.
I wanted you to know that the Planetree model practiced at your hospital that I had learned about in my own professional role at Four Winds Hospital, is alive and well and evident in all of your staff. I also know that this is so due to their leadership who they speak highly of and who are invested in making this so. Based on this experience and my stay at your hospital, I would highly recommend NWHC to my friends and family.
