The Caregivers Center is staffed by a full-time social worker and volunteer caregiver coaches who are trained to assist caregivers in managing the stress and issues that arise out of the caregiving role. Our services are provided free of charge and are available to all family caregivers involved with our in-hospital patients or patients receiving outpatient care, as well as community members who are in the caregiving role.
We understand how demanding, stressful and exhausting the caregiver role is, often with no means of support for your own needs and emotions. Each day presents new challenges and struggles.
We have a free monthly support group at Northern Westchester Hospital that meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month, from 9:30am to 10:30am. RSVP is required. Kindly email email@example.com or call 914.242.8128.

“The coaches saved my life. I could not have gotten through this without their support.”
“This center is a little piece of heaven.”
Opened in November 2007, the Caregivers Center was the first ‘in-hospital’ facility of its kind in the entire New York Metropolitan area.
The Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center was named in memory of a community member who was cared for by his wife, Marian, both at home and in many hospitals, during his battle with lung cancer. Marian cared for her husband for two stressful years, while at the same time juggling her role as a mother to two teenage daughters. After Ken’s death in 2004, Marian was inspired by her experience, realizing that hospitals are often not equipped to help the caregivers in a meaningful way. With a vision to support family caregivers, Marian approached Northern Westchester Hospital, because this vision of a Caregivers Center dovetailed with NWH’s participation and belief in the Planetree model of patient-focused, family-centered care.
The Caregivers Center is honored to have received a National Best Practice Award for Family, Friends and Social Support awarded by the National Planetree Organization.
The Center is financed solely through private funding from community members and foundations. We are tremendously grateful for their loyal support that helps us to continue to address the needs of family caregivers. To make a donation click here.
Our caregiver coaches are dedicated volunteers. Each volunteer is carefully chosen; they are deeply caring and offer non-judgmental support. Many have had personal experience in the caregiving role. Extensive training is provided. For more information contact the NWH Volunteer Department at 914.666.1925. Download a vollunteer application here.
Are you interested in starting a Caregivers Center in your facility? The Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center (KHCC) can provide interested institutions with all the materials and guidance required to create and develop your own center to support family-centered care.
Since the inception of the KHCC at NWH in 2005, we have already assisted numerous healthcare institutions in replicating our successful Family Caregiver Support model.
Additionally, institutions who have created Caregivers Centers meet semi-annually to share best practices and assist each other in innovating and expanding their impact within their communities. A free online network is also available. To read about our most recent symposium here.
