Title: Concussions and the Youth Athlete

Details: Join Dr. Victor Khabie, Dr. Jim Dwyer and Dr. Anna Alshansky and Adam Cohen, PT, DPT share what parents, coaches and athletic trainers need to know about concussions including the signs and symptoms, what happens when your child has to be evaluated and how to manage the injury.
Also being discussed are:
The definition of a concussion; the signs and symptoms of a concussion, on-field managemennt of head injuries; and what coaches, athletic trainers and parents need to know about concussion management in the acute setting.
Evaluation of head injury in the emergency department; assessment for associated injuries - spinal injury; facial fractures and other traums, when to obtain imaging of the brain; and understanding when injuries are more serious than a concussion.
What happens during a pediatric neurology consultation and when there is need for further testing.
The program will be held in the NWH Conference Rooms from 7 - 8:30pm.
