Northern Westchester Hospital Awards Health & Wellness Grants
Westchester County, NY (July 30, 2012)—On Wednesday, June 27, Joel Seligman, President & CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital awarded FitQuest grants to Grafflin and West Patent Elementary Schools and Pequenakonck’s PTO to be used towards health and wellness programs.
Dr. Jere Hochman, Superintendent of Bedford Central School District and Dr. Lyn McKay, Superintendent of Chappaqua School District joined Mr. Seligman at the Hospital for the check presentation.
FitQuest took place on May 12, 2012 in Chappaqua and was “created to bring together all the communities in northern Westchester for an afternoon of fun and challenging fitness activities in an effort to promote health and wellness throughout our community, while supporting local schools and the Hospital,” according to Joel Seligman, President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital.
A small band of devoted volunteers led by co-chairs Ayo Hart and Deb Coffino were instrumental in making NWH FitQuest a reality and successfully incorporating the hospital’s commitment to supporting our local schools and their wellness initiatives. “We are extremely thankful to everyone involved in bringing FitQuest to life as well as every community member who took time out of their hectic schedules to support the Hospital. It was a great day and the kids had a blast,” shared Hatsy Vallar, President, Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation.
Although the schools themselves did not assemble the teams, parents and community members certainly took the initiative and mobilized friends and families. In doing so, they were supporting their community hospital and their children’s schools.
The official results: Grafflin Elementary, part of the Chappaqua school district, has been awarded two (2) grants; one for the amount of funds raised and the other for their number of FitQuest participants. West Patent Elementary took home a grant for an impressive show of participation, and due to a successful fundraising campaign, Pequenakonck Elementary School’s PTO was awarded a grant as well. Each grant was in the amount of $1,250.
