"Our mission, in part, is to improve and protect the health of individuals in the community through programs that promote healing and wellness, and our staff is a vital part of that community," said Joel Seligman, President & CEO, Northern Westchester Hospital. "We are committed to providing our staff members with programs and tools that help them get healthy and stay healthy. We are extremely proud to receive this accreditation in recognition of these efforts and to be recognized as a Gold Standard employer."
This honor was made possible by the hard work of the NWH Wellness Committee, volunteer staff members who are committed to making NWH a healthier workplace. The Committee develops wellness programs to meet many employee needs. The most recent initiative, Living Well, provides employees with a free health risk assessment and on-site biometric screenings to learn about their current health status and how to minimize personal health risks. It also provides access to a wellness coach and online tools. Each step towards a healthier lifestyle was encouraged with chances to win health and wellness items and a Grand Prize of two round-trip plane tickets. In addition, nutrition counseling is made available, a fitness reimbursement is offered and customized, on-site smoking cessation programs with free nicotine replacements are available to staff members.
The CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ calls for companies to evaluate their health benefits and corporate culture and take extensive, concrete actions in five key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace.
