Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center Hosted Family Caregivers Symposium
On June 24th, the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center at NWH hosted the first bi-annual Family Caregivers Center Symposium.
Participating hospitals included, Midland Hospital of Michigan, Montefiore Hospital of The Bronx, Overlook Hospital of New Jersey, Westchester Medical Center of Valhalla, and White Plains Hospital of White Plains - all of which have replicated a caregiver center in their institutions, modeled after the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center at NWH.
Each hospital's Caregiver Center provides counseling and resources for families caring for ailing loved ones.
The goals of the Symposium are for Caregivers Centers to share best practice and continue to move the model in addressing the needs of the family caregiver both in and out of the Hospital. Joel Seligman, President and CEO at NWH spoke at the first Ken Hamilton Caregiver Center Symposium about the need for family caregiver support in acute care facilities. This forum provided an opportunity for all to share best practices and brainstorm challenges and opportunities for enhancement.
Based on the highly favorable response, we will be holding bi-annual symposiums to capitalize on the combined experience and expertise of this community.
