The Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital has been granted a three-year full-accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
This accreditation provides further affirmation of The Breast Institute at NWH’s clinical excellence in the New York metro area, and its ongoing commitment to the early diagnosis and speedy and comprehensive treatment of breast cancer.
NAPBC-accreditation is granted only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and is able to comply with established NAPBC standards. Each center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review its performance and compliance with the NAPBC standards. To maintain accreditation, centers must undergo an on-site review every three (3) years.
At NWH Radiology we are committed to administering the lowest radiation doses possible, while still producing the highest quality images. Our practices and techniques are regularly monitored by Radiologists and Medical Physicists, in conjunction with the American College of Radiology’s Image Gently™ guidelines.
The Women’s Imaging Center at Northern Westchester Hospital has been acclaimed a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by The American College of Radiology (ACR). NWH is the first hospital in Westchester with this Center of Excellence designation.

ACRO Accreditation certifies that Northern Westchester Hospital's Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center upholds staffing, policies and treatment programs that conform with accepted standards of current radiation therapy delivered in the United States. To earn Cancer Gold Standard accreditation, a facility must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by discouraging tobacco use; encouraging physical activity; promoting healthy nutrition; detecting cancer at its earliest stages when outcomes may be more favorable; and providing access to quality care, including participation in cancer clinical trials. Our participation in Get With The Guidelines® demonstrates our commitment to quality care. At NWH we are proud to be a New York State designated Stroke Center, and part of the American Heart Association’s efforts to turn guidelines into lifelines.
In addition to the Get With The Guideline-Stroke award Northern Westchester Hospital has also been recognized as a recipient of the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll, for improving stroke care. Over the past quarter, at least 50 percent of the hospital’s eligible ischemic stroke patients have received tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, within 60 minutes of arriving at the hospital (known as ‘door-to-needle’ time). A thrombolytic, or clot-busting agent, tPA is the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the urgent treatment of ischemic stroke. If given intravenously in the first three hours after the start of stroke symptoms, tPA has been shown to significantly reverse the effects of stroke and reduce permanent disability.
American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certifies the Northern Westchester Hosptial Rehabilitation Program. The AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to review individual rehabilitation programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by the AACVPR and other professional societies. Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR National Certification Committee and program certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.
Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available. AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.
NWH was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care. Our Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at NWH at Chappaqua Crossing in New York is designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (e.g. heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, etc.) and pulmonary problems (e.g. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – COPD, respiratory symptoms, etc.) recover faster and improve their quality of life. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling and support for patients and their families.
