It is with great pride that I announce that NWH has again been awarded National Planetree Re-Designation as a Patient-Centered Hospital!
The Planetree Designation Committee was unanimous in its assessment that Northern Westchester Hospital meets “the spirit and intent of the Designation criteria”, that re-designation is well-deserved, and that NWH serves as a role model for other hospitals.
NWH was originally awarded Planetree Designation in 2007 and was the first of 5 Hospitals in the nation to receive this prestigious recognition. There are now 24 hospitals worldwide that have achieved Planetree Designation. Northern Westchester Hospital remains the only hospital that is both Planetree Designated with Distinction and Magnet Recognized.
The Survey Team acknowledged many of our patient-centered programs including our:
- Inpatient and food services including our patient-centered process redesign initiatives
- Trustee, physician and staff engagement, including the Employee Congress, Planetree Steering Committee and Shared Governance Councils
- Robust volunteer programs such as the Aranow Art Cart, The Ken Hamilton Caregiver Center, Pastoral Care and the Surgical Ambassadors
- A very involved and committed Patient and Family Advisory Council
However, what was most evident to the Designation Committee was our staff’s commitment to simply “being there for our patients and families”. Many of our patients and families spoke to the survey team from their hearts about their excellent care during their stay with us. This reminds us once again that each of us has an important role in patient care and can truly make a difference on patient outcomes. As one patient stated, “I don’t know what my destiny will be when I leave here, but what I do know is that I’ve been cared for here.”
Thank you to every staff member and volunteer at NWH for your commitment to creating a quality patient experience for our patients and families and for continuing to raise-the-bar on what it means to be truly patient centered!
Congratulations to all,
