Our Patient Testimonials
At Northern Westchester Hospital, our success is measured by our patients satisfaction with our services and the care they receive when visiting our medical center. We take great pride in our patients and their courage to overcome physical challenges, from pain management to cancer care and treatment.
While we’re always interested in knowing how we’re doing in serving our community, what’s most important is how our patients are doing following their diagnosis and treatment in our facilities.

The right half of my right knee degraded following a high school injury. I asked Dr. Karas to perform the surgery at NWH based on a prior positive experience with him repairing an ACL. Dr. Karas provided the surgical solution, and then NWH physical therapy team provided my physical recovery. It’s now 7 ½ months after the surgery and I’m back to full strength. I look forward to having the active lifestyle I envision: skiing, hiking, mountain biking. I only stayed for one night in the hospital, but I was attended to by many highly skilled people. All with a great attitude. It’s a terrific hospital and it was a great experience.
I've had 3 spine surgeries at NWH with Dr. Marshal Peris. Dr. Peris is an outstanding man. His demeanor is so warming and confident that I felt so much trust for him. He explained everything, what he was going to do, and it was going to be all right. I couldn't wait to have him do the surgical implants. My life has changed so much. Every day I think about how great I feel. I've had no headaches, no numbness, my arms are stronger. I haven't stopped doing anything. I completely thank him.
On January 17, 2017 I had my left hip replaced at your hospital by the incredible Dr. David Yasgur. This is my 2nd hip replacement at NWHC, my first being 2002, when Dr. Yasgur replaced my right hip. I felt compelled to write about my very different experiences. While in NWHC in 2002 I received very good care but it was nothing compared to the patient centered experience I just had last week. From the moment my husband and I entered the ambulatory surgery unit to get checked in at 5:30 AM to the time I was released from the hospital 2 days later, I felt incredibly cared for. I would like to compliment the surgical team (of which I know little because as you can imagine I was a little groggy) but I specifically remember the gentleman (nurse ? anesthesiologist? ) who was so strong and kind and held me while I received my spinal in preparation for surgery. The new policy (at least new since 2002) to allow loved ones to stay with the patients during pre-surgery prep and in the recovery room is a wonderful improvement over my experience in 2002.In the recovery room, (again I apologize but I do not know the womans name who took care of me) but she was absolutely amazing. Finally I arrived on your surgical floor room 554. The first persons I met were my nurse Pam and my PCA Shaun. They were both incredible. I felt so confident in moving and standing up just a few brief hours after surgery because of them. Anything I needed, it was delivered immediately. Your Food is Care program is a drastic improvement over 2002. Everything that I ordered was delicious and fresh. Your food staff was efficient and helpful. Your PT and OT staff visited as well as case managers and Ortho PA. Everyone was kind and considerate and generally very helpful. On 1/18 and 1/19 I had the pleasure of being cared for by Jenny and Helka. In the evening it was Jen and Monique. I wish I had last names for these amazing nurses and PCAs because they were all very good. Jen and Monique did their very best to get me some much needed sleep and peace and quiet. Jenny and Helka managed proper medications during the day and making sure I was resting in between PT. Finally, I had the good fortune to take advantage of your Integrated Health program. I met with Susan and Toni from this group and had reflexology and aromatherapy which were both marvelous additions to the health care I was already receiving. I highly recommend expanding this program and making sure patients are aware of the opportunity to receive it. I truly felt it helped with my pain management and anxiety. It is a tough decision to choose where to have a major surgery. So many around us often highlight the advantages of a NYC hospital like the Hospital for Special Surgery or others, but I have to tell you for the second time in my life, I was so very thankful to have been a patient at NWHC. The icing on the cake (literally and figuratively) was the personal little banana bread I was handed as I exited the hospital. It was signed by Ms. Nancy Karch, Mr. Joel Seligman and the staff at the Food is Care program. What a beautiful personal touch to end my stay. Thank you again.
On 10/27/16 I had emergency surgery on my spine for a herniated L4/L5 ,S1 hitting the nerve root.I want to thank my amazing Neurosurgeon Dr. John Abrahams & anesthesiologist Dr.Stan Jivotovski for giving me my life back! It's amazing that 3 days later I'm able to enjoy my dads 70th birthday party pain free. When after 6 weeks I could barely walk with the most unbearable pain I have ever felt. My thanks to your entire staff for making my hospital stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.I was also blessed with being in one of the finest hospitals in the country Northern Westchester Hospital's Spine Institute. I'm forever grateful!
