Aranow Art Program at Northern Westchester HospitalMay 18, 2015
At Northern Westchester Hospital, we believe that the right combination of doctors, nurses and a healthy environment stimulate patient healing. This is a vision of care that is shared by the family of Rita Aranow. Through generous financial support, patients are now able to select artwork from the Aranow Art Cart to personalize their rooms during their hospital stay.
Ms. Aranow recognized that a comfortable, nurturing hospital environment can have a positive effect on a patient’s state-of-mind. She and her family developed the idea of the Art Cart and approached Northern Westchester to implement the program. Now, thanks to the Louis & Anne Abrons Foundation and the Aranow family, patients admitted to NWH are visited by Art Cart volunteers, who provide a selection of reproductions of paintings and photographs that patients can choose from. Picture frames are hung in each hospital room to make the installment and removal of the images seamless and easy. So far, patient responses to the Art Cart have been overwhelmingly positive.
One recent patient said, “I love this picture of the woods – it reminds me of my cabin in Vermont.” Another said, “This image is beautiful. I find it very soothing.”
Patient-centered care is a priority at Northern Westchester, and this is one more opportunity to provide patients with a comfortable healing environment.
